WASH - Towards Open Defecation Free Laos in 2025

On 29-30 October 2022 Caritas Luxembourg in Laos participated in the forum "Towards Open Defecation Free Laos", organized by the Ministry of Health. It was the opportunity to present to a larger public the activities that Caritas is implementing in Laos in the area of WASH: construction or rehabilitation of water systems, construction of household latrines, distribution of water filters as well as sensitization on hygiene practices for local communities.

Covid-19 response

On 1 August 2022, Mr. Robert Kohll, Senior Desk Officer of Caritas Luxembourg and Mr. Khamsing Namsavanh, Head of Mission of Caritas Luxembourg in Laos, were invited and had the opportunity to participate in a Collaborative radio podcast against dengue fever at the Lao national radio to share about the project activities that Caritas is implementing. Together with Vientiane Capital Department of Health, Caritas is supporting the vaccination against Covid-19 and health education campaign to increase people's awareness to treat and protect themselves from Covid-19 and dengue fever which is spreading widely in the country especially to every villages in 9 districts of Vientiane capital.

On 29 July 2022, Mr Robert Kohll, on behalf of Caritas Luxembourg and the Government of Luxembourg, handed over 305.000.000 Kip to Mrs Xayphone Nanthaphon, Director of the Vientiane Capital of Health Department to support vaccination against Covid-19 and health education campaign on dengue fever in 9 districts of Vientiane Capital. Additionally, this support will provide health education to the public through radio and television spots which will be broadcasted over a period of 3 months. The support to the Vientiane Capital of Health Department is considered an important support because they are a unit that plays an important role in the activities of this work, especially the control and prevention of the disease spreading

On 28 December 2021, Caritas Luxembourg and the Government of Laos signed a MoU for the implementation of the project "Promoting civil society participation to improve the implementation of the Lao national nutrition strategy". More than 33.400 people in 46 target villages in the provinces of Vientiane, Bolikhamxay and Xiengkhouang are expected to benefit from the strengthening of the Lao National Nutrition Strategy with funding from the European Union, the Government of Luxembourg and Caritas.
